Getting There: A Desert Adventure
To reach Fonts Point, you'll need a vehicle equipped for desert conditions as the road requires some light off-roading. It's best to have a high-clearance vehicle with four-wheel drive, especially after rain. We've driven to Fonts Point many times and have seen all kinds of vehicles, from fully equipped outdoor rigs to Subaru Imprezas. Keep in mind that road conditions in the desert can change quickly. If you're unsure, you can ask the staff at the visitor center about the current road conditions.
Once you're off Borrego Salton Sea Way, you'll find yourself in a wide wash usually with soft sand. This it where we usually see cars getting stuck in the sand.
If you are close to the Slot Canyon trail, Google might try to guide to to Fonts Point through the backcountry road from there. Do not take the road to Fonts Point that guides you past the Slot Canyon Trail parking Lot.
