To reach Fonts Point, you’ll need a vehicle equipped for desert conditions as the road requires some light off-roading. It’s best to have a high-clearance vehicle with four-wheel drive, especially after rain. We’ve driven to Fonts Point many times and have seen all kinds of vehicles, from fully equipped outdoor rigs to Subaru Imprezas. Keep in mind that road conditions in the desert can change quickly. If you’re unsure, you can ask the staff at the visitor center about the current road conditions.

Once you’re off Borrego Salton Sea Way, you’ll find yourself in a wide wash usually with soft sand. This it where we usually see cars getting stuck in the sand.

If you are close to the Slot Canyon trail, Google might try to guide to to Fonts Point through the backcountry road from there. Do not take the road to Fonts Point that guides you past the Slot Canyon Trail parking Lot

How to get to Fonts Point

  • To get to Fonts Point from Christmas Circle in Borrego Springs, head east on S-22 (Borrego Salton Seaway).
  • After approximately 10.3 miles, look for a dirt road on your right marked by a small sign indicating “Fonts Point - 4 miles”. You can also type in “Fonts Point Trail Junction” on Google Maps to guide you to the start of the Fonts Point dirt road. https://maps.app.goo.gl/uJjyWRdEhjtG3YpHA
  • The next four miles will be on a dirt road with sections of soft sand and washboard, so drive slowly and carefully.
  • Once you reach the end of the dirt road, you’ll find a small parking area. From there, it’s a short walk to the viewpoint.
